Moving

Bonny Dundee

I was hoping it would be a nice day to make the most of the fantastic view there would have been if the sun was shining.  It wasn’t.  J headed off back to Cupar, and I went for a look at the V&A before heading back to Argyll.

I have to say that I am not a huge fan of modern architecture.  Additionally I’m not greatly fond of buildings in Scotland made of wood – in spite of this seeming to be a special love of planning departments approving wooden extensions on stone buildings.  Also, any “V&A” branded museum has a huge amount to live up to in the Victorian splendour of the London one.  Having said all of that, I quite liked the Dundee V&A, more on the inside than the out.  The atrium was actually pretty spectacular and the views from the terraces were good too.   The exhibits were moderately interesting, and would have been more to my taste if they had managed to avoid some of the cloyingly woke prose of the labelling “enslaved people in post-colonial exploitative situations” etc. etc.  There were some interesting textiles, unsurprisingly for the home of Jute.

Then I went back to Dumbarton via Glasgow – I’d not been on this particular train route before and it was quite cool in a non-spectacular way.
