Moving

An uncomfortable night

Today Pickford’s took a big proportion of our life, put it in a van and drove away with it.

This sounds melodramatic, but in fact it genuinely was a bit traumatic.  For a start off, they had not reviewed my moving plan at all (I had all the boxes colour coded and labelled).  Additionally, they seemed to be sticking my small, neatly labelled cartons into much larger boxes which weren’t labelled at all.  The key thing when we get to the far end is that things end up on the floor they are supposed to live on.  It is 23 steps between the ground floor and the first floor, and a further 14 (very narrow and steep) down to the basement – so if a heavy chest of drawers ends up in the basement bedroom when it is supposed to be in a first floor bedroom then that is going to be  a major issue for us in moving it later.

Around lunchtime they departed  – leaving us with a skeleton crew of furniture which R will need to live with for the next few weeks.  We still do not have a date for our buyers completing, so R could potentially be here on his own for weeks.  I am personally determined that if it is more than a month, the three of us take turns in looking after Donich Lodge and Lucky.  It may be convenient for R to do it, but it is not fair.

Tonight I slept on a pull out camp bed on the floor of what had once been my comfy bedroom.  I did not have a good night’s sleep between the discomfort of the bed and the stress of contemplating the next few days.
