The cats of Castlebank

One of my great sadnesses when we arrived at our long anticipated house, was to find that the lions which had been on plinths to each side of the door had been removed.

The picture below shows them as they were when we last saw the house.  I was rather reminded of the famous programme about moving house “The Chain” when the character played by Nigel Hawthorne who had been merrily removing lightbulbs and fingerplates from the house he was leaving was stymied from taking similar statues because they were too heavy.

Anyway, for whatever reasons the vendors had taken the lions and we had to find replacements.  Originally we had thought of Griffons, or possibly one Griffon and one Unicorn, but then I came up with something more suitable.  Cats.

We are calling them “Tora” and “Schrodi” after our beloved Snow Bengal sons who died a few years ago.  I think they look great.
