The remembrance of things past
The green bird bath in the picture originally came from my Mum’s house. It then moved to Donich Lodge where is sat in a little garden I made on a flat place (few of those around Lochgoilhead). We called this “The Garden of Remembrance” because we put the ashes of our beloved cats Tora and Schrodi there after their deaths.
As a quick recap for those who haven’t read the Donich blog – Tora and Schrodi were our pedigree Snow Bengal boys who we had from kittens. They were our best friends and in my case at least I thought of them as my sons. Schrodi died from cancer at the age of 16 in 2019 and Tora lived on another three years to die just before his 20th birthday. It broke my heart when Tora went to the extent that I said I wouldn’t be having any more cats. Well that didn’t last long because we acquired Saphy and Amber from Cats’ Protection less than six months later; but although I love the ladies greatly, they are not to me quite what their predecessors were. Friends and companions, but not daughters.
Anyway, not to become too maudlin, when we moved to Castlebank I didn’t know what to do with their ashes and little headstones. I really didn’t want to leave them somewhere where in ten years time someone might say “yuck dead cat ashes” and chuck them in the bin. Also, to be honest I did not want to leave them all alone in the wilderness with no one they knew nearby.
So I brought their ashes and stones, and now they are under the picnic tree in our back garden with the bird bath.
