Oldies but goodies
A few blasts from the past today.
Firstly – I hung my washing out in the garden. In Argyll the weather was much too temperamental to even attempt this – literally it could be bright sunshine one moment and tipping it down the next. So all our laundry was done in a dryer, which was fine in the summer as all the electricity came from the solar anyway. Less good in the winter, but inevitable. So here I did the washing in the machine, pinned it out on the line and it was dry in two hours. It smelled nicer too. One thing I did forget (not having done this since I was a child) is that you are supposed to lift the line up with a clothes prop to stop your T-shirts falling in the pond (don’t tell him but this nearly happened to one of J’s today).
Secondly we hung a mirror in the hall. This one came from my Grandmother’s and R had a good moan about having too many family heirlooms. Anyway, it had been looking a bit frayed so I carried out some minor repairs with milliput and acrylic paint and it looked quite good.
Finally, we had our Sunday Lunch on Monday today as we were busy yesterday. When I was a child, Sunday lunch was always a roast of some kind with all the trimmings, and it was generally followed by my Mum’s famous jam sponge pudding and custard. We didn’t manage the roast this week because I want to trial getting this from the local butcher – so we had another of my Mum’s specialities – Steak and Sausage Pie. This is just Steak and Kidney Pie with sausages instead of the kidney (which I don’t like). I did, however, make the same jam pudding as she used to make, and it was as good now as it was 50 years ago. Even if I do say so myself.
