Sunday Lunch
One of the things I wanted to do when I moved here was lead a more “gracious” life. By this I do not mean the full on Hyacinth Bucket snobbery thing, but just that we should try to use some of the nice things we have (and in particular, have inherited); silver, crystal, china, linen etc. rather than putting it in cardboard boxes in the attic or shutting it away in drawers.
Up until now we have been a bit limited in this because everything was either in boxes or or all jumbled up where we couldn’t find it. But now I have restored a degree of order, and today we had a proper Sunday lunch at the dining room table with all the trimmings. We had roast chicken with lemon and rosemary potatoes (J was not keen on this so I won’t make it again) and raspberries and ice cream – all properly laid out with a linen table cloth and crystal glasses. I plan to eat in the dining room every day and to make a point of a special meal on Sundays.
After all this, I forgot to take a photo of either the table or the food. I only remembered when I was stripping the remains of the chicken off the bones for the cats. So the picture is of the cats’ Sunday lunch.
