First shots of new bathroom
We finally managed to get our main bathroom finished apart from the decorating part which I will do this week.
It is going to look very nice. But…
If I ever do this again I will get in a professional end to end company (like Dolphin) to do the whole thing. I know they charge more money and are a bit of a rip off but getting individual trades to do it was a nightmare. I had sort of imagined that the plumbers would be the main contractor and they would bring in their own electrician, joiner and tiler – but it was not like that at all. The plumbers (who were very good) gave me some names, but I had to manage them all – and I did not realized that there was backward and forwarding between the trades and that one person had jobs to do that couldn’t be started until other people had finished theirs, and that they had to come back again when the second person had finished. All in all the bathroom took more than six weeks to complete, with the final three weeks being waiting on a few hours’ work from a joiner.
And the tiles cost over £1000 to put up – they are beautifully done, better than I could do and certainly more quickly than I could do it. But I don’t think they are £1000 better – any more than the £5500 I was quoted to decorate the drawing room was £5000 better than my own attempts will be.
Anyway – hopefully with my woodworking course I will be able to box some pipes in myself next time.
