Two Amusing things

First amusing thing.  This is a Japanese pull saw.  I bought one to saw some wood.

The blade is about 12 inches long and razor sharp.  It is attached to a study handle and looks a bit like a martial arts weapon.  If you are old enough to remember “The Water Margin” it looks like something out of that.  It also looks much like the “zombie weapons” the government have been trying to ban, and could presumably be used to cause considerable mayhem.

These are some steak knives.  I bought them to cut meat (and actually to open boxes which is how we came to lose many of the last set).

They have blades about six inches long – they are definitely sharp, and should you desire to, doubtless you could cause injury with them.

Guess which one of these requires age verification to buy on Amazon, and which one doesn’t.  Hint, you are going to be out of luck if you are seventeen and like steak.

Second amusing thing.  Here in Fife we have four colour coded bins.  Blue for landfill, grey for paper and card, green for plastics and cans and brown for food waste.  Between all the “recyclable” things , we actually generate very little landfill waste.  So apart from cat litter and the occasional oddity where I am not sure where it goes, we never have much to put in the landfill bill.  The paper and plastics bins are pretty full though – so it occurred to me to ask for an extra plastics bin.  But we are not allowed to have one.  So every two weeks, if the plastics bin is full, I take some of the stuff out of it and put it in the landfill bin. I’d feel worse about this if I were convinced that much of this actually is recycled in any meaningful way.

I sometimes despair of our society.
