Basement bedroom

The latest room to be decorated is J’s basement bedroom and the two of us worked on it together.  It had been pretty grotty – this was the wallpaper.  The woodwork was also a mess and full of holes.

We filled all the gaps with Polyfilla and painted the walls with one coat of shellac based primer to stop the paper bubbling up, and then another coat of a thick water based primer to cover the wallpaper design.  Then a coat of Dulux “Buttercup yellow”, painted the woodwork and put some pictures up.  It looks a lot better, but is not entirely finished because the radiator and associated pipes are getting replaced the week after next, so I will be redecorating that one wall when they are finished.  That said, it looks a lot better.

This is the bedroom that any elderly and infirm visitors would use were they to visit, so I would wish to assure them that were they to come the room is very nice and that the real bathroom is next door.  They would need to watch out for the ghosties though.
