The Victorian Boudoir

This is the completed master bedroom.  It is not really entirely Victorian because the washstand is a bit modern looking (I did start to look into the idea of buying an original one and then making holes in the basin to plumb it in – but it was going to be expensive and take a long time – I may look into this in the future).

The rest of the wooden furniture is Edwardian.  I love the little bureau in the corner – there is an MS Surface hiding in it!

The fireplace is not original anything – it looks to have been custom made recently and was just raw wood.  I sanded it back and varnished it.  The fire grate is original – I have cleaned it but I still need to buy some proper black lead and polish it up.

The bed looks Victorian but is modern.

The armchairs are actually the correct period as is the footstool.  The big armchair needs some restoration work but I was quoted £700 for doing it which is more than the chair is worth.  I may try doing it myself as a winter project.  The view is one of the best parts of the room.

Finally the new fitted carpet.  This is obviously not an authentic feature of the room but I am afraid is me pandering to my own weakness.  The foot I had the big operation on last year hurts if I walk barefoot on hard surfaces, but is fine on carpets.  So this is a super soft modern carpet made from synthetics.  It is lovely.  Sorry 1850s!
