Sewing Machine
This sewing machine belonged to my Grandmother who was born in 1888.

The engraving on it “As supplied to her Majesty Queen Alexandra” places the date between 1901 and 1910, so Grandma would have acquired it as a young woman.

When she died in 1986, my father insisted on keeping it, and it passed from one attic to another for the last 40 years (with some difficulty as it weighs a ton).
Anyway, I am glad that it was saved because it still works (I tried it) and now I have cleaned it up, it looks rather good in the dining room. I have it in mind to try making something suitably Edwardian on it during the course of the winter. Apparently middle class Edwardian ladies often made their own underwear – that is something I will not be trying.
