Gardening

And then there were two…

I felt that the basement was lacking a certain something, so we purchased a second aspidistra.

The original plant – called Distra is going strong – he was pretty small when we got him. The new one, she had to be christened Aspi, was actually much bigger to start off with. I am keeping her upstairs for a week or two to become acclimatised. After that we will move her downstairs; there is not much natural light there, but I am assured on good authority that aspidistras were specifically bought in Victorian times because they could thrive in houses that were dark and polluted due to gas lighting and coal heating.

My “False Christmas Cactus” – the White Lady is covered in buds.

So we will see how she gets on. I also planted the little white heather I was given the other day in a corner of the herb garden.
