Testing our water
The question of lead pipes and our water supply has been raised with me by various people now. My take on it (as far as Castlebank House goes) is that people have lived here constantly for 171 years. Families have been raised and people have lived to grand old ages here. So I don’t think there is lead in the pipes, and frankly even if there was, it is not going to harm us in the years we have left.
But out of curiosity I got a test and ran it – on both the cold and the hot water supply. The test was for a large number of possibly impurities/additives in the water, plus its PH value.
This is the kit I got (for the massive sum of £6.99). You dip a strip into a glass of water for 2 seconds, hold it in the air for 30 and then compare the colour to the chart.

This is our result – all normal. Our water here is rather harder than I thought it would be and that might explain why the glass kettle we bought when we moved in is looking a little cloudy.
