House

Cosy Corner

When we first moved into the house (it was just J and I initially because R had been left behind house sitting in Argyll), the house was an unspeakable mess for weeks.  Imagine most the contents of two large houses and an overstuffed flat simultaneously being decanted into an even larger house, and then further car loads periodically being dumped before we had a chance to tidy away the first lot.

This was some of the boxes.

Most of the rooms looked like this

So just so that J and I had one little comfortable place to be, we took two of the leather chairs from Donich Lodge and put them in the bay window in the dining room.

Yesterday was a bit of an end of an era, because we finally dismantled cosy corner and moved the comfy chairs into the drawing room which is actually much cosier because there is a living gas fire in there which we are turning on in the mornings as it gets colder here.  The chairs have been covered with William Morris style throws, but they still look a little out of place.

Unfortunately the Victorian chairs are not particularly comfortable, and there is no point in buying something else to replace the modern leather chairs, because if they are Victorian they are not comfy (e.g. Chesterfields), and if they are contemporary, they will never be in keeping with the style of the room.

We are getting a new gas fire surround before Christmas – the one we have is a bit glitzy.  But cosy corner is now firmly in the principal room of the house.
