Spice bottles
I have been wondering about this ever since I started baking (about 50 years ago believe it or not). Given that spices tend to be measured out in teaspoons – why do virtually no spice jars actually accommodate a standard teaspoon??? By which I mean that the spoon will not physically fit into the jar – meaning you have to manually pour it into the spoon to get the measurement – generally with the result that the spices end up all over the table.

For most things I just go for measuring a random amount into my hand and throwing it in randomly, but you have to watch that technique with very strong things like dried cloves, because overdo it and it ends up tasting medicinal.
Enough grumbling – I made an old favourite from Deliaonline today – Apricot and nut crunch. I used raisins instead of apricots (R claims not to like apricots). I only bake these for holidays because everyone (me included) likes them A LOT and they are on the fattening side.

I took some of them to church and they went down a storm.
