House

In which Aspy finds a new home

We have two Aspidistras called (very originally) Aspy and Distra.  The Aspidistra is also known as the “Cast Iron plant” and was a favourite in Victorian times because it was one of the few house plants to be able to survive the toxic inside atmosphere caused by gas lighting.  So whilst Distra lives on the drawing room window sill in the bright unpolluted air of the electrically lit house and natural sunlight, we thought Aspy would be ok with a corner of J’s basement.  In general, the basement is not that gloomy, but the central hall has little natural light, and J tends to keep the electric light off  while he is festering in his office.

So I noticed that Aspy  was looking a bit sad, and when I examined her, one of her leaves had wilted.  So I gave her an emergency relocation onto the hall window sill.

A new plant (as yet unnamed) has moved into the basement.

Not so much cast iron as moulded plastic.
