The Remains of the Cake

R is a great lover of all things chocolate related.  He is not, however, a great connoisseur of fine examples of the chocolatier’s art – on occasion I have tried him on fancy boxes of chocolates, but what he really prefers is the “Dairy Milk”, or Hob Nob experience.  I on the other hand do not really like cheap milk or white chocolate – the only stuff I go for are either Green and Black’s 85%, or  the fancy Belgian truffles which cost about £50 a box.

Anyway, I made some chocolate brownies for a lunch at church the other day and these really suited both of us as they were made with dark chocolate but also had sugar and butter in them for extra sweetness and squidge factor.  To make them look pretty, I put an icing glaze and a walnut half on each cake.  They were, even if I say so myself, seriously good.  There was enough food at the church lunch for about three times the number of people there, so quite a lot of the brownies came back, and the three of us have been having one each with a cup of tea in the evenings.

These were the cakes with the walnuts on top.

While I was clearing the plates away this evening I noticed that R had eaten his entire brownie, but left one small item behind.

Yes, believe it or not, R had removed the walnut from the top and discarded it.  That man will go a long way to avoid a vitamin or a bit of fibre.
