Rhu
Went to Rhu to see my Mum today. Our run along the A91 was somewhat slowed by a cycle club choosing to use the main road as a venue for either a general day out or an actual race. Either way this was extraordinarily dangerous because they were obstructing the road for several miles, some single cyclists and some in large groups. Cars were becoming impatient to get past because the bikes were using up half the road and were then overtaking in ways which were dangerous to the motorists and even more so to the cyclists themselves. I am all for cycling and I have a bike myself, but a major A road is not the correct location for an event involving large numbers of bikes with no signage, marshals or notification to other road users that the public highway was going to be impacted in this way. Rant over, but I am not really irritated because of any inconvenience to us, I am irritated because it was genuinely dangerous and you can bet that if a cyclist had been hurt or (more likely considering the road conditions – killed), no blame would have been placed on the idiots who induced the problem. Cycle on back roads in single file, or on cycle paths or tracks not on fast A roads in bad weather conditions.
I made steak and sausage pie which was quite nice, with roast potatoes which were (I will say) excellent and a chocolate lava cake. This was a sort of take on a chocolate fondant, but much easier to take on a long journey – it is made from a soft batter which splits when baked into a sponge and accompanying sauce which is stable in a dish once cooked.
I bought my Mum two little china foxes from the same shop as my chickens came from. I forgot to take a photo of them, so here is an artist’s impression.
