Winter drying method

Following on from my revelation last summer that drying clothes on the outside line was better than using a dryer, I have come to a further epiphany (this time courtesy of J).

Our crappy washer dryer takes three hours to dry a small load and doesn’t do it that well. But in the winter this house can be cold and one way and another the radiators are on most of the time. But not just ordinary radiators – 1920s style ones. What could be more perfect for drying clothes – they dry right though in not much more time than the noisy expensive dryer takes.

It also has the incidental effect of putting a little moisture in the air which is needed because (believe it or not) the house keeps drying out. Rather than being damp which I thought it might be, in fact the humidity keeps dropping below 40% at which level I start to get sore dry eyes.

So much for me lecturing J on not drying his clothes on radiators!
