Moth Rescue
I went out the back door to empty the bin this morning, and on the door lintel was a lovely moth which had obviously just emerged from its winter cocoon. I know some people don’t like them, but I think they are very beautiful. This one had the most amazing patterns but its wings were still shivering and a bit crumpled.
To give it the best chance I could, I went and got some sugar in a teaspoon and dissolved it in a little water. Then I very carefully manoeuvred the moth on to the spoon and put it down on the path. It seemed to feed a little from the sugar water, and I could see its wings getting more rigid. Suddenly it spread them and shot off into the sky – it was quite some flier because it must have been about 20 feet over head and making for the trees when we lost sight of it.
I have to admit that the photo is a little poetic license courtesy of AI because I did not have my phone ready to take a picture.
Tomorrow J and I are off on holiday for a few days – we are going for a drive round Cumbria where I was brought up.
