Somewhat abortive visit to St Andrews
I finally managed to get J to come to St Andrews. The idea was that we would go to the dentist, the tip, J would change the address on his bank account (this is nearly a year after we moved in btw) and then we would go and see the Cathedral, have a general wander around the scenic streets and have an ice cream at my favourite ice cream place.
We went to the dentist, the tip and the bank. Now for the fun part…
The Cathedral was closed until April. We went for a scenic walk and everything was looking very pretty – but….

My god it was cold. It was so very cold. We did not have an ice cream; we came home.
I can’t help in general thinking about St Andrews that it is full of tourists, students and golfers and shops for tourists, students and golfers. Plus property there is so excruciatingly expensive. I can’t help thinking that Cupar is the world’s best kept secret as it is 15 minutes drive away from St Andrews (or 15 minutes closer to Edinburgh if you want to look at it that way), has a decent train station, less pretentious shops and few tourists, students or golfers. Although it does have the world’s oldest 9 hole golf course!
