MacDuff’s Stone

Went up to Macduff’s stone with some friends today – this is “the” Macduff from the Macbeth story and it was here that he was granted sanctuary by King Malcolm.  It was quite nice, if a bit chilly and the views from the top were great.

Unfortunately, we got slightly lost on the way down, and instead of a scenic walk through the countryside to the garden centre where we were going to have coffee, we ended up with a less than scenic walk along the side of the A913.

One thing I will say about Fife compared to Argyll is that there are a lot of main roads and different ways to get to places.  Where we used to live in Lochgoilhead there was only the A82/A83 combo and if either or both of those were having a problem (and they had a lot of those) – your only way out of the village was a 55 mile detour via Crianlarich or a ferry from Dunoon.  Or a helicopter.
