Two for the bucket list
When we lived right out in the back of beyond in Lochgoilhead, amongst the things I always really wanted to do was go to a “Pick your own fruit farm” and a decent Farm Shop. We never did because the road was so awful you would only go on it in extremis, and even if you did, it was a sod of a long way to drive to get anywhere.
By which I mean that first you had to drive down an unsurfaced forestry track for the best part of a mile, then you had seven miles of single track road with passing places, and then the notorious A83 over the Rest and be Thankful with its perpetual traffic lights (the only thing about that road you would be thankful for is never having to go on it again!). And no Pick your Own in Argyll (not really the weather or the soil for soft fruit).
So today I took great pleasure in going to Balgove Larder near St Andrews (very nice, very expensive farm shop), followed by Cairnie’s fruit farm where I picked both strawberries and gooseberries (raspberries start next week!).
Then I made a gooseberry pie for taking to my Mum’s on Saturday.
None of these things made for great pictures – so here is one of Saphy sleeping on a bag, as is her wont.
