The Stand

Not the end of the world I am afraid – or not quite yet, but R’s air conditioning unit.  His office is on the top floor with massive windows facing right into the afternoon sun.

In the summer it can easily get to 30C in there, and even closing the shutters only takes it down by a few degrees.  So R has a mobile air conditioning unit with the brilliant idea of pushing the discharge tube up the chimney (rather than the more normal window outlet).  The only trouble with this is that the unit has to be a decent distance off the ground to be able to get enough clearance for the tube – and for the last few months since he got it, it has been precariously balanced on a small stool. Not only was this a bit dangerous as it weighs 35kg, but more importantly, it made the room look scruffy.

So today I made a custom stand for it out of old scrap wood we had in the garage.  I didn’t go to a huge amount of trouble with it, partially because the materials hardly warrant it, and partially because I am not that skilled, but I think I managed to make a reasonable job.

At least it supports the weight of the unit safely and looks better than it did before.
