Clearing out the kitchen cupboards

I have finally lost patience with my kitchen cupboards.  I have lots of different sorts of flour, sugar and other baking ingredients and it had all got terribly out of hand – particularly with all the baking I was doing for the Cupar Show.  I seemed to have multiple bags of the same thing open, and a couple of them had leaked in the cupboard making a bit of a mess.

So I bought some containers and spent part of this afternoon consolidating and labelling everything.  I did not do a “before” picture – partially because I didn’t think of it, and partially because I would be ashamed.  But here is what it looks like now.

I am not guaranteeing it will stay like this – but at least it makes it possible to keep it more tidy.

I also started picking some apples – unfortunately the ones ready now are “Beauty of Bath” which ripen early, do not keep well, and are not good for much apart from immediate raw consumption.  Nevertheless, I am having a go at keeping them until October when the plan is to take the majority of the fruit for pressing and then turn it into cider.

I have covered a trestle table in the garage with cardboard (thank you Amazon) and laid the apples on it, carefully avoiding them touching each other.  Apart from that we ate some and they were quite nice, although uncooked apples are not a favourite of mine.
