Little Walsingham

Today was the real purpose of the holiday, to go and see J’s old house which we sold 18 months ago.  He was in real trepidation because this was his childhood home, and we had taken a bit of a hit in selling it in one piece to a local family rather than to a developer for demolition and splitting into three separate plots with three soulless modern bungalows on them.

Suffice it to say, the new occupants had made a brilliant job – honestly they had showed more imagination and flair than I could have summoned up, and they had even kept all the original 1930s features that gave the house its charm.  I won’t put pictures of the inside for public viewing as this is a family home, but this is the house from the outside.

So with that done, we went and did all the things I did with J when on holiday here.  We walked up the railway to the Slipper Chapel and back to the Anglican shrine via the Holy Mile.  Then we had a lovely lunch with some friends.

We walked round to St Peter’s church and then to St Mary’s, and had a drink at the Black Lion before ending up at the Anglican shrine where we caught the end of a rather complicated sounding choral service.  We lit some candles for our own church, and particularly for our Rector who is ill.  I also lit one for all of us.

Here is me in front of the shrine.  I would have been wearing my special T-shirt with “St James the Great. Cupar” on it apart from I forgot it.
