Fast or Slow?
I’ve always been a fan of the JFDI protocol. To give an analogy – you are trapped by your ankle by a giant clam and the tide is coming in. It is lose your foot or drown so how do you decide to do the grizzly deed – saw or cleaver? Now I am pretty sure that if push came to shove I could do the cleaver method (probably bleeding to death in the attempt) but I am not sure I could use the saw.
So to get to the point; at the moment there are masses of things to do in Castlebank House, many of which are disruptive and annoying. They involve people coming into our private spaces and making a loud noise and a mess. I have gone for getting as much as possible done all at one time (the cleaver approach) but I am getting the impression that the rest of the troops are getting restive about this approach and are at least stating that they would have preferred the saw.
But they haven’t got it because it is me managing this project, so during July we have plumbers, joiners, decorators, electricians, carpet layers and kitchen fitters. We have mess, noise and disruption. But by August we have new bathrooms, working plumbing, a wider door for the basement, a new kitchen, and an office for R which is not pale pink rose themed. And peace and quiet.
This may not happen exactly according to plan, but the alternative was to have a hideous long drawn experience over six months.
Better the cleaver. Or some would say better to have stayed in the modern bungalow and kept your foot.
