Games,  House,  Renovation

Nearly finished…

The games room is nearly finished now.  I ended up with a huge pile of stuff in the hall, mostly cardboard from packing, but also stuff for the other two floors which was literally dumped in the basement when we moved in (thanks Pickfords) and have only been rediscovered now.

We have two huge Kalaxes full of all our gaming stuff – now all we need is a big table.

For a basement, it has a lovely bay window, and even a sort of view.

There is a huge fireplace at the other end of the room (I will take a photo once I have cleared the last of the the cardboard) which leads us to believe that this was the original kitchen for the house, perhaps with the small adjoining room as the scullery.  In 1854 there would probably have been no running water in the kitchen itself, only in the scullery.  To modern minds this is shockingly inconvenient (rather like having an old style hob instead of an induction is for me), but presumably it was what you were used to.  I suggested that we have a huge “witches’ cauldron in the hearth but J didn’t like the idea – we’ll see.

The new bathroom upstairs is also nearly finished…
