Fixing the window sill
Now I have the high ladder, I am going to try to fix this window sill. There is an obviously decayed bit on it, and it is the exterior sill for our much loved stained glass window. I think at some point the whole sill will need to be cut out and replaced but this is beyond my current joinery skills, so I am going to carry out some repairs by cutting away the bad bits, painting the area with wood hardener and then using a two part epoxy to build up the missing bit. I’ll then sand it down and paint it.
My researches tell me that this will fix the problem for now and stop it deteriorating further. Believe it or not I am going on a joinery course starting on Monday (just some night classes in the first instance, but who knows…) so I may be able to get skilled enough to cut the whole sill out and put a new bit in.
I am definitely going to get J to hold the ladder while I am doing this – it is not really dangerous but it is on a bridge above a big drop which is a bit scary. Both J and R are scared of heights although R did a pretty good job conquering his fears when he did the high corners in the kitchen.
