A modern beautiful thing

I’ve spoken quite a lot on this site about beautiful objects from the past; everything from Staffordshire pots, to 19th century bedlinen, to 18th samplers.  I haven’t said much about modern things because frankly, I don’t often find them that attractive (apart from in the beautifully utilitarian way of say, an iPad).  But my sister in law brought R and us this today, and I actually find it very lovely as well as useful.

It is a tea light holder with a lovely design of birds and flowers, but rather than being powered with an actual combustible tea light, it has a small (rechargeable) LED lamp inside it.  This has the advantage of being safer, cleaner, and less likely to damage furniture it comes into contact with.

Some of these would have been a benison with our  former cat Schrodi who found tea lights so fascinating that he managed to burn his whiskers off with them several times.
