Woodworking class

I had another trip to Edinburgh yesterday (busy day). This was the second part of my woodworking course, which is to introduce you to basic woodworking techniques. We are building a “blanket ladder” and I am afraid I have to admit that I didn’t know what a blanket ladder was (that reminds me of the old joke about the priest and fellatio). In fact in old fashioned British English it is basically what we would have called a towel rail.

After the walk in the morning, the day was still lovely and the journey into town was pretty spectacular.

I went down to Leith in the tram again – it was a great deal less busy than the previous week, as thank goodness the pernicious festival is nearly over for another year. I noticed an interesting Burns statue at the bottom (or top?) of Leith Walk. Funny, because I must have walked past it dozens of times when I did a lot of work with a company whose offices were down there and I never noticed it before.

This is Edinburgh Open Workshop where the classes happen. It is a shared workshop which can be hired out by the day or part day for your own projects, as well as doing courses. They have every conceivable tool you could imagine, including lots of really big things which would not be feasible in a domestic garage.

This is how my blanket ladder is coming along so far.

I said it looks like a fence post and R replied that all ladders start off as fence posts. Very Zen.
