Our warriors, in serried ranks assembled

J unpacked his French Napoleonic Army and put it into the display case where it lived in the house in Norfolk.

It looks great here as it did there, and I am glad that all the nice things from Little Walsingham have found a good home in Scotland.  Actually Fife is quite similar to North Norfolk – albeit a bit hillier.  We were talking about this over lunch today and I commented that I have rarely seen anything prettier than the ride between Kings’ Lynn and Walsingham on the famous Coastliner Bus on the run up to Christmas – there are loads of villages and little towns, and every one of them has a wonderful showing of Christmas lights.  By this I do not mean garish “Blackpool illuminations” style lights, but pretty old fashioned twinkling ones in pretty old fashioned cottages and shop windows.  R replied with the good point that I haven’t seen Fife in the winter yet – and my guess is that the coastal villages here may have a similar feel.  But I digress – here is J’s army.

The quote in the title for those who are not Gilbert and Sullivan fans is from my favourite operetta “The Mikado”

Our warriors, in serried ranks assembled
Never quail — or they conceal it if they do —
And I shouldn’t be surprised if nations trembled
Before the mighty troops of Titipu!
