Some woodworking

I was never sure that I was doing that well when I did the woodworking course in Edinburgh – some of the machines I found quite difficult and the other people on the course were 30 years plus younger than me which helps with the physical strength required. I am probably making excuses here and it is just that in general I find it difficult to do things with people watching me.

But anyway, I learned a lot, and have now started to put it into practice. Firstly, perforce we have a cat toilet in the hall because Amber flatly refuses to use the garden unless someone goes with her and watches out for pine martens (she won’t believe there are none in Fife). So I made a screen to hide it – the total cost was zero as the wood was left in the garage by the previous owners, and the paint and sticker tiles were left over from other projects.

Now I have started work on the replacement “door” to cover the cat flap. If you remember I had made a nice door which was secured by magnets and worked great until Saphy worked out how to pull it off (waking R up at 3am with the noise of this). So now she is getting the tower of London; a proper wooden door with metal hinges and a latch. I cut the pieces out this morning and primed them – tomorrow I will try to put them onto the door.

I have also ordered the wood for boxing in the new pipes downstairs – the other things are really just non-essential fun, but provided I can do a reasonable job downstairs, it will save us a load of money – probably enough to pay for the woodworking course and some.
