Catching up

I have to say that J and his friends did not make a mess of the house, and that while we were away he did all his tasks, including putting the (correct) bin out, feeding the girls and even cleaning their litter tray.  So well done J – I am glad you did not take the opportunity for a bit of learned incompetance.

So today all I had to do was a mound of laundry that came back from Italy and give the house a bit of a polish.  The storm blew one of the downspouts off the side of the garage, so I need to put it back on as soon as it stops raining.

Aside from that I did some baking for the Church AGM and pot luck lunch which is this Sunday.  I made a cheese and onion pithivier which is a sort of puff pastry pie containing layers of potatoes, onions (there were supposed to be leeks as well but Lidl didn’t have any) and cheddar cheese with mustard and cream.  This was about the only savoury pie  I could think of which would be nice cold and cut well, without starting making hot water crust pastry.  In the picture it looks a little anaemic, but it is only part baked – I will finish it on Sunday.

This is a spicy apple cake (apples from last year’s harvest).  It is dark brown from the sugar and spices in it and is still to get its frosted walnut icing.
