A new cat toy
I bought a partially reconditioned Victorian firebox for the dining room. The idea is that it will be filled with logs and placed in the hearth as a feature.
It came from ebay in a huge box which was massively heavy and bulky. I started to think “Wow this is much bigger than I thought it was going to be”, but then J and I started to unwrap it. We removed, not one, not two, not three, but four layers of cardboard and found that although heavy, it was about the size I had thought it would be. It was very nice of the seller to wrap it well – but seeing it is cast iron it perhaps did not need quite so much protection because this set of packing materials is a whole trip to the tip on its own!
But the cats love the cardboard. They clawed it and chewed it and crawled underneath it, and in the case of Saphy, even had a quick nap on it.

I will now need to construct the box and black lead it.
