An interesting walk
After the visitors departed today, the three of us went for a walk by the side of the Eden. It was a really lovely day. All the trees are coming into leaf, the birds were singing and on the main path, the dog walkers were out in force.

So when we found a narrow grassy path leading along the side of the river away from the main drag, we followed it (I have seen it before and wondered where it went but it has always been too muddy in the past). It went a long for quite some way – we saw lots of rabbits, two herons and an empty packet of rizlas (I did not check to see if parts of the cardboard were torn off at the back).
Then we found out where the path went.

The back of the sewage works. Actually it was not very smelly so technology has improved in the last 45 years. When I was at school we had the opportunity to visit the local sewage works for our Environmental Studies class – going on the trip involved missing double maths, so every single person signed up for week one. It was so disgusting and stank so badly that the for week two just about everyone (me included) preferred the maths lesson.
