Purely by chance
R and I went off for a walk in Craigtoun Country Park near St Andrews. We were going to look at a reconstructed Dutch village that had just opened, and also at a Japanese garden and various other features of the stately home that had stood there. We saw all these things and very nice they were too.

But then we noticed this. Purely by chance we had stumbled on to “History in the Park”

There were tents of all different styles from Roman to WW2 (in fact apparently one of the depictions was of the Suez Crisis although I have no idea of how you can do a reconstruction of that in a field because I had an idea there was a canal and a desert involved) and we could smell the wood smoke from breakfast being prepared.
So we went and got J and then saw some re-enactments. It was quite good – but I have to say that as far as the traditional crafts were concerned I think I knew more than some of the craft people – fancy not knowing the difference between a candle and a rushlight – tut tut.

Anyway, as we left it was starting to rain and the wind was getting up – we got to wondering how well the different types of tent were going to stand up to it.
