Seaside
Today was the summer solstice. R and I had not been to the coast together as yet (although J and I had one attempt which had been spoiled by the Fife “Haar”) so we had the idea of driving to St Monan’s and seeing the sun rise over the sea. Then we worked out that to see this phenomenon on 21st June we would need to get up at 3am – so we decided not to do that thing. Instead, we got up a little early at 6am and left before 7am as these East Neuk villages are pretty, popular and have precious few places to park. J had mentioned that he “might” come – but let’s just say that I was not entirely surprised when he did not rouse himself in time.
We went to St Monan’s and parked there. Then we walked along the Fife Costal Path in the direction of Pittenweem – it was really the most beautiful day. We went past the tidal pools and I promised myself to bring my costume next time and have a swim.

We got to the crazy golf course just outside Pittenweem and had to turn back as we were out of time – I’ll need to try for third time lucky to see the village itself. We went down to St Monan’s harbour on our way back to the car – it was super pretty in the sun and still nearly deserted (I am sure that it would be mobbed by 10am). I climbed on to the top of the harbour wall to take some photos – R declined.
