Some Microwave fun
I had noticed that our microwave door had been getting progressively more difficult to open, and then yesterday it stuck closed completely. After five minutes of pushing and prying with various implements I managed to get it open again and having done so, it reluctantly agreed to continue to do so, although it was very stiff and awkward to do. So I decided that it had reached the end of its useful life.
We had another microwave that had been a Christmas present to J before he decided to cast his lot in with us, so I went to the garage to get it. It is a large oven and weighed a ton (I think that microwaves have some sort of ballast in them like washing machines) so I manoeuvred it on to a trolley and up and down the steps to the house with some difficulty. I then decided to see if anyone on “Free Stuff” Cupar wanted it – better a microwave with a semi-broken lock than no microwave at all, so I set out to give it a thorough clean, including steaming the inside (this is a good trick I found – you put a bowl of water inside with some lemon juice and microwave it for a few minutes until it makes loads of steam – this loosens any debris and grease).
Of course, as soon as I had finished the steam clean – I tried the door and it worked perfectly again. Obviously the steam trick works in more ways than one.
So then I had to manhandle the new microwave back to the garage.
You can see from the photo that we have more gadgets than counter space.
