In which R shoots himself in the foot again…
R has made the same mistake over and over again during the 30 odd years we have been together. He is constitutionally not able not to be good at everything. He tries very hard to fail at things because he hates it when I call him “homo superior” or sing the “Urban Spaceman” song to him, but he is simply a failure at failing.
So he tried not to be able to fix the hoover; that failed dismally when he dismantled the base and got the clot of craft material out of a hidden tube. He has failed not to fix computers so many times that he has given up on that one. Rather like Jesus who didn’t even need to touch someone to cure them of leprosy, R only has to walk into the room for PCs to start booting normally, viruses to clear up instantly with not even a snivel left behind, and even printers to spit out recalcitrant documents. He recently tried not to be able to fix my mother’s dishwasher, but as soon as he walked into the room he noticed that the child lock was on and in two minutes it was running perfectly.
This all makes him very annoyed, but he says “I know nothing about this – I can’t fix it” and I say “Just try” and then when he does fix it, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Then there is no end to people asking, and the R legend grows from strength to strength.
So to get to the point, last night I tried to get him to fix a mobile phone, and once again he said he couldn’t fix it, and yet again he did. And this morning, he fixed the bread maker.
These rolls are the bounty R has brought into the land! Praise to R master of all things mechanical and electrical!
