About Us

We are three middle aged, middle class people.  We all went to public school and then university (with varying degrees of success).  R and I have/had good careers.  J comes from a wealthy family.

J is the oldest of us.  He is intelligent, self-effacing and incorrigibly lazy.    He comes from a wealthy background and has never had much of a career.  He was the main driver behind buying the Victorian house because he has both a passion for history and a load of antique furniture.  J is interested in history, RPGs and the supernatural.  Although he is well-off, he is never happier than when he is saving 25p by doing something very unpleasant or inconvenient.  He is much better at doing DIY than he is prepared to admit.

R is the youngest of us.  He is kind, honest, hard working and incredibly talented at all things technical.  He has a very successful career in computer security.  He was quite keen on moving to Cupar, but only because it is very convenient for the airport – basically his interest in the house as a piece of history is very low and at heart he would have preferred a modern bungalow. R is interested in technology, politics, architecture and “modern culture”.  What he really, really loves is being left on his own with his computers.  What he really, really hates is hassle of any kind from me.

Then there is me.  You probably get my character from my other posts.  I had a very successful career in computers as well although I have largely given it up now to become a lady of leisure (that is a joke if I ever heard one).  I am interested in history, cooking, literature, languages, crafty things.  I used to be very interested in hill walking until I had a serious accident in 2023 – and although I have recovered completely for normal purposes, my mountaineering days are over.

In case anyone wonders, the reason for R, J and M (apart from making us sound like the characters from “Three men in a boat”) is that R is actually quite famous in his field (world famous in Poland) and he did not want searches for his name “muddied” by finding mentions of him on my blog (particularly if they don’t display him in the correct light).  J’s real name actually begins with an R as well, so he had to be J from his surname to be able to tell them apart.  Confused – you will be…
