House

Address

I would never have believed that we would have had more problems with deliveries here in the centre of a town than we did when we lived in the middle of nowhere.  But we do.

For a start off, there are several large houses here with variants of “Castle” something in their name.  Then there is the fact that virtually all of these have had a portion of their garden sold off and a modern bungalow put into the smaller plot – this means that the original house is not visible from the road and the modern house is reached before the original.

Then for our specific house there is an extra problem.  I always thought our address was “Castlebank House” – and in fact this is what the name plate at the end of the drive says.

But the actual official name of the house is just “Castlebank”.  So now we have the situation where the official name for the Royal Mail is the correct one, but for some reason as far as the Council, and therefore Government bodies like HMRC and DVLA is concerned it is “Castlebank House”.

All this, combined with what I will generously describe as a “lackadaisical” attitude by some delivery drivers has caused many a parcel (including ones that were supposed to be signed for) being dumped at the back doors of various neighbours.  Also just about every Tesco delivery we have has the guy ringing me up to make sure he is coming to the right place.

So I ordered a new great big sign – and spent most of the day (which was a beautiful one) painting the fence ready to receive it.

Tomorrow I will put it up.  If it doesn’t work I will get another sign with AKA “Castlebank House” underneath it.  I am also going to go round to our back gates which open into a small lane, give the gates a coat of paint and put a sign up saying “No deliveries to Castlebank House”.  Or should this be “No deliveries to Castlebank” – sigh….
