Caserta
Today we went to the Royal Palace of Caserta which is a short train ride from Naples. The day started well because it was a double decker train. I love trains, and this had lots of cool features like a speedometer – just in this short journey it got up to over 120km per hour.
Then we went to the Royal Palace which is a bit like a rather less well known Versailles. It was incredibly impressive.
First we walked up the park along the side of a massive watercourse to some fountains.

R was delighted that the last 500m up to the “Grotto of Diane” was closed off because it was very steep. We went on through the English gardens and then to the house itself.
There were some magnificent rooms with wonderful art work and I will put some pictures up later because R took the pictures and we are experiencing some technical difficulties getting them off his phone.
The best thing about the palace today was that there was only a handful of visitors and with the park and the palace itself being so huge, it was like having the place to ourselves.
A wonderful day.
