St James’ Church Coffee Morning

Today was our annual Church Coffee morning at the Corn Exchange and I was helping on the cake stall.

I’d made some cakes and jam for the occasion and R helped me carry them over – lucky we live so close as the Corn Exchange must be the place of maximum inconvenience in Cupar to try to unload the car.  Note the labels – I now am “Castlebank Kitchen” although the professional effect was somewhat spoiled by having to stick them on with sellotape because I couldn’t get the sticky labels to work in my printer.

I was not alone in making cakes – what a spread!  They kept on coming and coming and in the end I had to go home and come back with extra tablecloths, plates and knives.  I had to hide the latter in a bag as the police were outside directing the traffic and I didn’t want to be on the BBC…  “Cupar coffee morning knife terror” (or something like that).

My cakes went down quite well (my authentic no-cherries Dundee cake is pictured) – but by far the “hot cakes” item were the scones – they were quite literally gone (imagine the joke for yourself please) within five minutes of the event opening.  The other really popular one was the cherry cake which is closest to the right in the main picture – it was super luscious looking and I had been going to take a slice myself but it had all gone before I got a chance.

My Mum won a beautiful hand painted glass in the raffle and I won a backpack.  Neither R or J won anything.

It was a good day and hopefully we made a load of money for keeping the lights (and heating) on in the church.
