Fruit Farm

R and I went to Cairnie’s fruit farm just outside town today.  We had been going to “pick our own” but it was a very changeable day weather wise, and although the sun was shining at home, five minutes drive away it was raining.  So we didn’t – I was pushing it getting R to come at all – getting him to stand in the rain picking fruit he doesn’t even like was going too far.

So we sat in the very nice restaurant – R had an oreo slice (I did not know these existed but they look good) and I had this.

Not just the ordinary strawberry tart with a single berry – but a mega one with three!  I started off by trying to pick it up but had to resort to a fork – even then I got all over sticky and had to borrow R’s hanky and hand sanitiser (do not ask why he carries this apart possibly for cake related emergencies).  It was very nice and so was the coffee.  Then we bought some of the strawberries we could have picked – they were nice too but quite expensive.

“Pick your own” has obviously come a long way from when I was a child and there was a muddy field and you brought your own carrier bag.  I can’t think how they made any money because we used to eat more than went in the bags.
