Lindores Abbey

All three of us went to Newburgh today to do the history tour of Lindores Abbey/Distillery.

First of all we went and looked at Abdie old Kirk where we saw some interesting old inscriptions and a Pictish stone.  You may wonder why this ancient stone has Roman numerals and an ordnance survey marker carved into it – this is essentially a 17th century addition – or as they would probably say now – act of vandalism.

Here are J and I.  R does not want his photo on my blog – I think this is plausible deniability in case anyone accuses him of being responsible for what I write.

We went on a stroll down part of the Fife costal path by the Tay estuary – it was somewhat reminiscent of Norfolk with all the reeds obscuring the view.

Then we went on the tour itself – it was very well done, and the abbey ruins are a lovely peaceful place.

Before we went home we had a glass of Aqua Vitae – which is a sort of botanical spirit.  It was ok, but a bit medicinal which is fair enough I suppose because that is what the monks distilled it for.  Or at least, that is what they claimed they distilled it for.
