Destiny
R and I went to Perth today to see the Stone of Destiny (I had already seen the replica at Scone Palace with J a few months ago). The stone itself was, well, a stone… Strangely enough it looks much like the replica. However they had made a really good multi-media presentation for it – you go into a special room and images are beamed all over the walls. To get into the area where is kept you need tickets (free though) and they do a bag check. I asked the girl at the counter if this was to make sure no one walked out with it – I guess they may have heard that rather weak quip before.
The museum was well done. This is a pictish stone.

We saw an attractive graveyard, some nice old buildings including St John’s Kirk with its bells. John Knox (not a favourite figure of mine) used to preach there but I will let it off.

Now I have a confession to make. The night before I drive in a new city, I always look at the map to avoid any nasty surprises. Last night I was wondering why the “New Kingsway” road just outside Perth has a bridge on it called “Destiny Bridge”… Duh….
