Cupar

A nice weekend Part One

One of the reasons we moved away from Lochgoilhead, was that unless what you fancied doing was something very vigorous in the the countryside generally involving mountains, lochs or both, there was quite literally nothing to do without getting into the car and driving on very bad roads for a minimum of half an hour (Inverary but not much to it) or Dunoon/Helensburgh at around an hour.  Helensburgh and anything further to the south also involved the pleasures of the A83, a road which I have written about extensively in the past and which I do not intend to revisit, either in writing or in person ever again.

So this was the main reason for leaving, and I had a little list of criteria for anywhere we were moving to (could have been any part of UK although R was keen to stay in Scotland)

a) small scenic town or large village  b) imposing period property c) train station d) decent internet access e) not on a busy road

We moved to Castlebank because it met all those criteria, and this weekend (and this coming week) is why.

On Saturday, we walked to the Farmers’ Market in the centre of town and bought some Victoria plums.

Then J and I went to the Cupar Flower and Craft Show.

I love things like this ever since I used to go to the Dalston and Cumberland shows as a child.  There were the usual giant vegetables, lovely flowers, baking and crafts.

Then we walked home and sat out in our walled garden.
