My £2 Rug
We had some pieces of carpet left over from the new one we got for the basement and they were cluttering up the garage. I am moving into the final stages of clearing the garage to the extent that we can park the car there. This might sound strange as it is a huge triple garage, but believe me, with the number of cardboard boxes we had, plus the amount of junk the previous owners left, it has been a lot of work and many trips to the tip to get this far.
Anyway, I needed some cheap rugs to put in utility areas of the house, so I have repurposed the carpet pieces. To stop the edges from fraying and making a mess, I got some “book binders’ repair tape” from Amazon. This was £8 for a big roll – I think it would do four rugs like this one (about 1.5m square).

Actually this tape is very good because it is stickier and more flexible than traditional packing tape, but less aggressive than Gorilla tape. I’ve used book binding material effectively for other purposes like covering shelves as well.
Anyway I like my rug (it is the yellow square one, btw, not the orange one underneath it which was just a bit pricier than £2) although unfortunately it is not going to fit into the space I had earmarked for it. Now if I were a real Victorian I would be making rag rugs…
