Ash Wednesday

I went to church to be “ashed” this morning. I explained to R what it entailed and what it symbolizes and he looked at me incredulously. When I got back he wanted to see what the “smudge” looked like, but because I have a fringe, there wasn’t much actually got on to me. Still it is the thought that counts.

I am giving up meat for Lent this year and R has agreed to do this as well. J has not agreed to it yet (because I haven’t told him), but as he eats what I cook for him, in practice he is giving up meat too. Unless he cooks himself secret bacon sandwiches when no one is looking.

I am thinking of taking all the money we save by not eating meat during Lent (my guess is around £30 a week) and giving it to charity.
